Manila Water strengthens heat safety measures for workers amid rising temperatures

Manila Water has rolled out additional safety measures to protect its workers and contractors from heat-related illnesses as high temperatures continue across Metro Manila’s East Zone and Rizal Province.

The company said it has set up shaded, well-ventilated rest areas at project sites, along with hydration stations and first aid supplies. Safety officers are also assigned to monitor workers throughout the day.

To help reduce heat stress, workers now begin shifts with stretching and warm-up exercises and undergo health checks before starting work to ensure they are hydrated and fit for duty. Tents have also been placed in active work areas to limit exposure to direct sunlight during peak heat.

Employees are advised to avoid heavy outdoor work during the hottest hours of the day. Hydration stations have been made available not only to workers but also to customers in service areas.

Manila Water corporate official Jeric Sevilla said worker safety remains a top priority, especially under extreme weather conditions.

The company said these steps follow the Department of Labor and Employment’s guidelines on workplace safety during extreme heat, aiming to reduce the risk of heat-related injuries and illness.
