Smart SIM registration campaign validates 2/3 of subscriber base

Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) said it has validated the subscriber identity module or SIM registration of 46.9 million users as of 13 June this year or 71 percent of its total subscriber base.

Alfredo S. Panlilio, Smart president and chief executive, said the collaboration with government in the landmark legislation’s implementing rules and regulations (IRR), as well as the company’s focus on customer experience on its SIM registration platform, proved vital in the campaign.

“We made sure that Smart’s SIM registration customer experience would be seamless. It was important for us to understand the customer journey and make it as convenient to our customers as possible,” Panlilio said.

Smart has actively collaborated with national agencies and local government units in deploying thousands of assisted SIM registration booths across the country, particularly far-flung municipalities to help seniors, persons with disabilities and those still using non-data phones to register their SIM.

In addition to these, Panlilio also said Smart’s award-winning “Mag-SIM Reg Para Hindi SIM Dead” campaign also helped push Smart and TNT subscribers to come forward and register their SIMs.

“We also invested heavily on a customer education campaign. The series really caught the attention of our customers and was positively accepted by the market,” he said.

One of the campaign videos, “Tattoo” by Smart’s value mobile brand TNT, was also recently recognized as Best TV material by Bestads, which honors the world’s best global ad industry websites, after going viral and racking up millions of views, drawing praises for its wit and creativity.

The first Filipino video to top the Bestads list within the past three years, “Tattoo,” is one of three videos designed to encourage Smart and TNT subscribers to register their SIMs to avoid permanent SIM deactivation and all its hassles.

With the recent announcement of the deadline extension of the SIM Registration Act, Smart continues to encourage subscribers to register their SIMs before 25n July this year.
