Former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, now a lawmaker, visited the Philippines as a special envoy of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
During his trip, Kishida toured the Batangas LNG Terminal, a joint project between Japanese and Philippine companies. The facility supports the Philippines’ shift to cleaner energy and highlights cooperation between the two countries.
Kishida also met with the ASEAN Business Advisory Council, where they discussed strengthening Japan-ASEAN ties. Talks focused on helping small businesses, encouraging startups, and boosting entrepreneurship.
In a meeting with Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, Kishida congratulated him for receiving a high Japanese honor, the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun. Zubiri welcomed Kishida’s visit and said he would continue supporting stronger ties between Japan and the Philippines.
Kishida also held discussions with Japanese companies operating in the Philippines during his stay.
