The Department of Transportation (DOTr) targets to finish the main rehabilitation of Tuguegarao Airport by December 2026, with additional upgrades scheduled for September 2027. This project follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to improve regional airports nationwide, aimed at drawing more tourists, investments, and business opportunities to the province.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez stated the upgrade is key to better connectivity across northern Luzon. A modern, well-maintained airport is expected to drive local economic growth by encouraging more visitors. Once done in 2026, the terminal will accommodate 743 passengers, up from the previous 212. By September 2027, capacity will rise further by 150 seats, with a fully redesigned terminal interior and exterior.
The project also includes extending the runway for larger aircraft, adding night flight capabilities, building a new administration building, and acquiring an international-standard fire truck. These improvements will transform the airport into a more capable, safer, and more convenient gateway for travelers.
