Philippines spotlights Victoria automated port logistics hub

As part of the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Australia, a Philippine mission in Australia visited the Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) at the Port of Melbourne last week, highlighting the terminal as a model of advanced logistics and port automation.

Operated by global port operator International Container Terminal Services, Inc. through its subsidiary ICTSI, VICT is recognized as Australia’s first fully automated container terminal and among the world’s most technologically advanced facilities. Its systems for automated cargo handling, digital coordination, and high-efficiency yard operations were showcased as examples of how modern ports are reshaping global trade flows.

The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) said the visit underscored the importance of world-class logistics infrastructure in strengthening export competitiveness and supporting investment-ready economic zones.

It emphasized that automation and smart port systems are now central to improving supply chain resilience and attracting global investors.

Officials also noted that the engagement builds on PEZA’s 2025 visit to ICTSI’s Baltic Container Terminal at the Port of Gdynia in Gdynia, reflecting the agency’s continued collaboration with leading international port operators to benchmark best practices in trade facilitation and ecozone performance.

The delegation included representatives from the Australia Philippines Business Council, the Department of Trade and Industry, and the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines, alongside PEZA officials.

The group was in Melbourne in connection with the Digital Health Festival 2026, further linking digital innovation with logistics and trade modernization.
