NKC PH taps First Gen for 1.84-MWp rooftop solar project in Cebu

NKC Manufacturing Philippines Corporation, a local unit of Japan’s Nakanishi Metal Works Group, has partnered with First Gen Group to build and run a rooftop solar power plant at its factory inside the Mactan Economic Zone. The deal was signed on May 14, covering the design and installation of a 1.84-megawatt-peak solar photovoltaic system. Construction is underway, with completion and connection to the facility’s power supply targeted before the end of 2026.

For NKC Phils., the project addresses both environmental goals and operational needs amid higher costs and high energy use in manufacturing. First Gen, the country’s top renewable energy producer, noted that the partnership aligns with their shared aim of low-carbon, cost-effective production. Beyond building solar facilities, First Gen also helps clients manage energy use through monitoring systems and audits.

This development highlights the growing adoption of on-site renewables by manufacturers in the Philippines, supporting both corporate sustainability targets and stable power supply while cutting carbon footprint.
