Meralco crews work around clock after Habagat

Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) crews are working around the clock to restore power in communities affected by the enhanced southwest monsoon, with about 18,000 customers still without electricity as of 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The remaining affected customers account for less than 1 percent of Meralco’s customer base, as restoration teams continue repairing power facilities and lines damaged by heavy rains and strong winds.

Most of the outages are in parts of Cavite, while other affected customers are in Metro Manila, Rizal, Laguna, Bulacan, Quezon and Batangas.

Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga said crews would continue working until service is restored to the last affected customer.

“We thank our customers for their patience and their help in reporting outages in their areas, which allowed us to expedite restoration efforts,” Zaldarriaga said.

He assured customers that restoration work would continue without pause while crews observe safety protocols.

Meralco also urged customers to exercise caution, particularly in flooded areas and locations where damaged electrical lines or facilities could remain hazardous.

Customers can report outages through Meralco’s official social media accounts or by texting 0920-9716211 or 0917-5516211. They may also call the Meralco Hotline at 16211.

The latest figures show that outages have declined significantly, although localized disruptions remain as the monsoon continues to affect parts of the distribution network.
