Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) took home four major awards at The Asian Banker Philippine Awards 2026: Best Managed Bank in the Philippines; Best Bank CEO for President and CEO Jose Teodoro “TG” Limcaoco; Best Retail Bank in the Philippines; and Best SME Bank in the Philippines. The ceremony was held recently at Seda BGC.
The Asian Banker is a Singapore-based global research body, with awards granted through rigorous, research-led evaluation. This recognition comes as BPI marks its 175th year.
“These awards reflect our people’s hard work and our customers’ trust. We remain focused on building a stronger, more resilient bank that delivers lasting value,” Limcaoco said. “We will keep investing in our people, technology and capabilities to serve Filipinos better, help businesses grow, and support more people in achieving their goals.”
The CEO award covers Limcaoco’s leadership from January 2023 to December 2025, a period of major transformation and growth. Judges noted his steady execution of a strategy to build a larger, more integrated and increasingly digital bank while maintaining customer focus, operational stability and responsible growth.
A key achievement was the successful integration of Robinsons Bank, which expanded BPI’s customer reach, branch network and market presence. The merger was completed smoothly with no service disruption, and was followed by sustained growth in lending, deposits and income alongside better operational efficiency. BPI cut its cost-to-income ratio to 47.2%, kept return on equity at 14.5%, and maintained strong capital and asset quality.
Judges also recognized BPI’s investments in technology and service improvements, including expanded digital options and redesigned branches that focus on advisory support. BPI has now been named Best Retail Bank for two straight years, cited for steady performance, innovation and customer focus. As Best SME Bank, it was praised for its well-established, disciplined support for small and medium enterprises.
