A fresh, colorful romantic comedy webtoon created by 21-year-old Filipino artist Veya Sebastian is winning over young digital readers, blending playful fun, clever storytelling, and gentle meaningful lessons.
Titled Head Over Heels!, the series follows the blossoming romance between Elaine Blossom and Landon Maesse — characters whose personalities and designs are uniquely inspired by food: Elaine by strawberries (cute, pink, and bright, with a sharp, sassy edge that softens over time), and Landon by black sesame, with classic good looks and a signature mole resembling a sesame seed. The pair’s exaggerated yet relatable dynamic breathes new life into familiar romance tropes, earning the work nearly 38,000 views and over 1,500 followers since its launch.
“I might as well draw now,” Sebastian — who creates under the pen name friedstrawberry — recalled thinking in 2024, when health issues kept her homebound and gave her time to develop characters she first sketched back in 2021. Her persistence paid off: after four months of uploading with little attention, social media sharing helped her build a loyal audience that delights in the story’s hidden details, visual clues, and layered worldbuilding.
The series doubles as a celebration of style and creativity. Its title carries a double meaning — the thrill of falling in love, and the fashion flair woven throughout every page. Sebastian draws inspiration from food, flowers, animals, and artists like Paradise Kiss creator Ai Yazawa, blending anime, manga, and Western visual influences into a vivid, distinct art style.
Beyond the laughs and colorful panels, Head Over Heels! carries a quiet, hopeful message: to stay open to love and growth even after hardship, and to choose kindness and respect in relationships. “She wants people who have gone through hardship to heal, move forward stronger and remain open to good people and new opportunities,” the creator shared.
Available now on Webtoon, new episodes unfold regularly — offering readers a fun, accessible escape with something meaningful beneath its playful surface.
