Major local fuel firms will roll back prices starting Tuesday, September 1, with diesel and kerosene falling by more than ₱3 per liter after two consecutive weeks of increases.
Shell is cutting gasoline by ₱0.30, and both diesel and kerosene by ₱3.80 per liter, effective 6 a.m. Seaoil will reduce gasoline by ₱0.32, diesel by ₱3.83, and kerosene by ₱3.84. Jetti Petroleum will lower gasoline by ₱0.40 and diesel by ₱3.90 per liter.
The cuts follow two straight weeks of hikes totaling ₱3.57 for gasoline, ₱6.15 for diesel, and ₱5.96 for kerosene. Last week alone, prices rose ₱1.08 for gasoline, ₱2.31 for diesel, and ₱0.95 for kerosene. As of August 25–31, NCR fuel prices average ₱75.90 for RON 91 gasoline, ₱89.40 for diesel, and ₱118.10 for kerosene.
The drop brings welcome relief for transport operators, delivery services, and other businesses relying on diesel — easing operating costs after weeks of rising expenses. Households using kerosene for cooking or lighting will also see lower daily expenses.
Jetti Petroleum president Leo Bellas said the adjustments reflect recent global trends: gasoline prices have stayed lower but are rising amid tight regional supply, while diesel is pressured by improved crude availability though limited Middle Eastern exports cap further falls.
The Department of Energy has not yet issued a statement on this week’s changes, but officials previously noted global market volatility remains. Energy Undersecretary Alessandro Sales said the chance of double-digit price swings in coming weeks is low unless critical infrastructure such as pipelines or ports are damaged in any escalation.
