The Philippines hosted the 13th ASEANTOM Annual Meeting Aug. 11–13, 2026 in Manila, leading ASEAN cooperation on nuclear safety, security and safeguards.
As chair, the country guided plenary discussions, presented project progress, and shared outcomes from the flagship AR/NeX 2026 emergency exercise. Led by DOST-PNRI’s Nuclear Regulatory Division—soon part of the new independent PhilATOM regulator—the hybrid meeting enabled broad regional participation. Two sessions focused on aligning with IAEA standards and strengthening global partnerships. Delegates exchanged best practices on regulation, emergency response, security and stopping illicit nuclear material trafficking. The Philippines formally handed the ASEANTOM chairship to Singapore on Aug. 13, reaffirming commitment to safe, peaceful nuclear use. Established in 2013, ASEANTOM unites ASEAN nuclear regulators under shared international standards.
