Listed firm 2Go Group Inc., a unit of SM Investments Corp, has obtained so-called mixed-temperature vans designed to boost the safe and secure transport of goods across the country.
The reefer vans, the first in the Philippines, have multiple temperature settings that allow them to store and ship both frozen and chilled food items at the same time, freeing up slots in vessels.
Frozen foods as meat and fish are typically preserved at minus 20 degrees centigrade while chilled ones like fruits and vegetables are kept between minus 2 degrees and minus 6 degrees.
2Go has also acquired so-called less than container load or LCL vans for deployment across the country in tandem with the mixed temperature vans. The addition of these assets increases 2Go Special Containers’ reefer van fleet by 25 percent.
“We continue to believe in the long-term growth potential of this sector and have made these strategic investments as we expect consumer growth to drive the economy. With these new assets, we raise our standards in transporting the freshest food possible, especially as customer demand rises in the coming weeks,” 2Go Special Containers president Gener C. Lim said.
2Go Special Containers owns one of the largest fleet of reefer containers complemented by reefer trucks.
The company has offered LCL reefer service since 2007 under no minimum delivery quantity provisions so that small volumes of cold chain shipments ranging from individual customers and entrepreneurs to big businesses can be shipped.
This generates savings in terms of warehousing and storage for direct deliveries.
Among 2Go Special Containers’ long-time clients are restaurants, fast food chains, coffee shops, food and dietary supplement stores, among others.
