The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) said tax collection in September reached P203.58 billion, an 11 percent increase from the P183.53 billion generated in the same month last year.
From January to September, gross collections totaled P2.465 trillion, an increase of P130.372 billion from the corresponding period in 2025.
BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza attributed the improvement largely to voluntary compliance and taxpayer assistance initiatives carried out by regional offices, the Large Taxpayers Service and other support units.
“Our taxpayers are doing their part, and our revenuers are doing theirs. By reaching out and helping taxpayers comply correctly and on time, we are showing that good taxpayer service and stronger revenue collections go hand in hand,” Mendoza said.
The bureau cited its Taxpayer Portal and nationwide BIR C.H.A.T. assistance activities as efforts to simplify filing and payment procedures and improve access to taxpayer services.
However, the preliminary figures do not establish how much these initiatives contributed to the increase. The BIR also did not disclose whether September collections exceeded its monthly target, leaving its performance against the full-year revenue goal unclear.
The faster monthly growth comes as the government seeks to strengthen revenue generation to fund public spending and meet fiscal commitments. Sustaining the pace through the final quarter could help support collections, although one month of stronger growth does not necessarily indicate a lasting acceleration.
The coming months will provide a clearer picture of whether September’s performance reflects a broader improvement in tax collection or a temporary upswing. Actual results against revenue targets, alongside continued compliance and enforcement efforts, will be key indicators of the bureau’s progress.
