Truck operators transporting agricultural products have until October 31 to apply for a 5 percent toll discount across expressways managed by SMC Tollways. The price relief program, which runs from November 1 to 30, aims to lower farm-to-market delivery costs amidst rising fuel prices.
The one-month discount is part of a joint initiative by the Department of Transportation and the Toll Regulatory Board to ease the financial pressure on food transporters. SMC Tollways will apply the reduced rates across five major routes: the Skyway System, NAIA Expressway, South Luzon Expressway, STAR Tollway, and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway.
This discount directly impacts everyday consumers. High transportation and logistics expenses often drive up food prices in markets and grocery stores. By lowering highway travel costs for agricultural delivery trucks, the initiative aims to help keep the cost of fresh food and essential food products stable for households.
To qualify for the discount, truck operators must be accredited by the Department of Agriculture and enrolled in the toll program. Enrollment strictly closes on October 31, and SMC Tollways emphasized that no late applications will be accepted after the cutoff date. Truckers who previously enrolled in the program do not need to reapply, provided their Department of Agriculture accreditation is still valid. However, those with expired credentials or new applicants must register in person at any Autosweep Customer Service Center by submitting their vehicle registration documents, valid accreditation certificate, and Autosweep RFID account details.
