NGCP sends the grid under red alert when the power supply cannot meet consumer demand in the transmission grid’s regulating requirement. The power transmission company also placed the Visayas grid under red alert.
Meralco said around 250,000 customers were initially affected by the power interruption that lasted about an hour.
“Meralco may continue implementing one-hour rotating power interruptions if needed as part of its responsibility to manage the power system,” Meralco Spokesperson and head of Corporate Communications, Joe Zaldarriaga, said.
He added that customers under the interruptible load program with a total de-loading capacity of around 230 megaWatts continue to help manage the impact of the supply deficiency.
“We appeal to our customers’ understanding. Rest assured that we are managing the situation and will provide updates as needed,” Zaldarriaga said.
