Alternergy Holdings Corp. has received approval from the Department of Energy (DOE) to increase the capacity of its Tanay wind power project from 112 megawatts (MW) to 128 MW. The development, which began construction in June, will feature 16 wind turbine generators, each rated at 8 MW, marking the largest onshore wind installation in the Philippines to date.
Knud Hedeager, president of Alternergy Wind Holdings Corp. (AWHC), expressed enthusiasm about the DOE decision, saying, “We conducted a technical optimization study which showed that the potential net energy within the production area could generate as much as 128 MW of capacity.”
The project has secured financing of up to P8 billion from the Bank of the Philippine Islands and Security Bank. This initiative will serve as Alternergy’s second wind project in Rizal, complementing the existing 54 MW Pililla wind farm, operational since 2015.
Alternergy aims to expand its renewable energy portfolio to 500 MW by 2026. Its current capacity is only 86 MW.
