Passenger traffic drops during Undas 2024 exodus, PPA reports

Passenger traffic at seaports nationwide during the Undas 2024 exodus proved lower than expected, according to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA).

From 28 October to 4 November, a total of 1,076,171 passengers passed through various ports across the country, down from 1,544,313 during the same period last year. The 2023 Undas holiday coincided with a longer weekend, which the PPA believes contributed to higher travel numbers in comparison.

“Several factors may have contributed to this decrease. For one, the longer weekend holiday in 2023 likely led to an increased number of travelers compared to this year,” the PPA said in a statement. “Additionally, the aftermath of Typhoon Kristine may have caused some seaport passengers to delay or reschedule their trips.”

Despite the decline in overall passenger traffic, the PPA’s proactive communication efforts, including 24/7 updates via social media, helped keep the public informed on trip cancellations, port statuses, and relief operations following the typhoon.

Among the ports with the highest passenger traffic during Undas 2024 were PMO Bohol with 126,532 passengers, followed by PMO Davao (123,290), PMO Negros Oriental/Siquijor (116,087), PMO Batangas (103,858), and PMO Negros Occidental/Bacolod/Banago Bredco (100,194).

The PPA’s early preparations, including enhanced safety measures and coordination with local authorities, ensured that passengers experienced a safe and secure journey during the holiday period.
