The Department of Agriculture (DA) has estimated the damage to agriculture from Typhoon Marce reaching P277.75 million, based on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center data.
As of 8 a.m. Sunday, the DA reported a production loss of 796 metric tons (MT) across 9,933 farmers and fishers, impacting a total of 15,670 hectares. The majority of the damage was observed in the Ilocos and Cagayan Valley.
Rice was the most heavily affected crop, with damage amounting to P132.37 million, or 766 MT, across 7,242 hectares. Of this, 83.7 percent were partially damaged while 16.3 percent were a total loss.Thirty metric tons of high-value vegetables and fruits sustained P130.98 million in losses while corn damage totaled P13.27 million from 1,184 hectares. The typhoon also caused P1 million in infrastructure, machinery, and equipment damage, and P118,000 in livestock and poultry losses.
The damage caused by Typhoon Marce adds to the P6.83 billion in agricultural losses already reported from tropical cyclones Kristine and Leon as of November 7, 2024.
