The Lopez-led First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP) in Batangas has earned recognition from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) for its commitment to water safety. On February 11, 2025, FPIP’s water management units—FPIP Utilities, Inc. (FUI) and FIT Water, Inc. (FITWI)—were awarded Certificates of Water Safety Plan (WSP).
FPIP is among the few ecozone developers to achieve the distinction, a testament to the company’s rigorous planning and adherence to water safety regulations set by PEZA and the Department of Health (DOH). As part of the award process, the PEZA WSP Review Committee, supported by experts from the DOH and other organizations, evaluated each plan based on thorough criteria, including hazard identification, control measures, and operational monitoring.
FPIP’s water service divisions invested heavily in improving infrastructure and enhancing system capabilities. Notable initiatives include the construction of a river treatment plant, automation of water management systems, and the integration of new chlorination processes to ensure water safety.
“This recognition is a milestone for us, confirming our ongoing commitment to water safety and sustainable development,” said Jeremaine Esguerra, head of FUI and FITWI. The certification also aligns with FPIP’s goals of environmental regeneration and decarbonization, benefiting both the ecozone’s locators and surrounding communities.
FPIP, established in 1996 by First Philippine Holdings and Sumitomo Corporation, serves as a hub for over 150 global manufacturers and is integral to the local economy, providing employment and generating tax revenue. The ecozone is now expanding with nearly 600 hectares combined in FPIP and FIT, supporting a workforce of nearly 80,000 people.
