Grab Philippines and motorcycle taxi platform MOVE IT have tapped AXA Philippines and PhilPacific Insurance Brokers & Managers, Inc. (Philinsure) to strengthen the social protection of their driver, delivery, and rider-partners. The transaction offers free life insurance policies to the partners, expanding on the platforms’ existing insurance coverage.
The initiative, a key element of the Ka-Grab Rewards and Ka-MOVE IT Rewards programs, provides enhanced financial security and access to benefits similar to those in formal employment, including life, accidental, disability, and terminal illness coverage. The partnership underscores the platforms’ commitment to the welfare of their drivers and riders, improving their social protection and peace of mind.
Ronald Roda, country head of Grab Philippines, emphasized the importance of supporting drivers beyond livelihood, ensuring they have the security and protection they deserve. Since 2016, Grab was the first to offer free life insurance to its driver-partners, while MOVE IT introduced similar coverage in 2023.
The partnership with AXA and Philinsure extends comprehensive coverage to tens of thousands of top-performing partners, empowering them with financial resilience. Ayman Kandil, CEO of AXA Philippines, highlighted the importance of accessible financial protection, reinforcing that the initiative supports the drivers’ long-term well-being and future stability.
This collaboration is a significant step in ensuring gig economy workers in the Philippines are supported, balancing work flexibility with essential social protection.
