BSP champions interoperable digital payments at SEACEN Conference

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Eli M. Remolona, Jr. emphasized how digital payment systems can transform regional economies during the 61st South East Asian Central Banks (SEACEN) Governors’ Conference.

Speaking at a panel session titled “Empowering Economic Integration through Digital Payment Connectivity,” Remolona said that digital payments are more than just a technological innovation—they are a strategic tool that enhances economic efficiency, financial inclusion, and resilience. He noted that stronger payment connectivity can deepen trade, investment, and financial integration across Asian economies.

The discussion, held under the conference theme “Asian Financial Integration to Navigate Geoeconomic Shifts: Unlocking Growth and Innovation,” brought together experts who explored the opportunities and challenges of linking digital payment systems across borders. The session ended with a joint call to make regional payment systems interoperable and standardized to support smoother cross-border transactions.

Remolona also joined the 45th SEACEN Board of Governors’ Meeting, where members approved the 2026 work plan and budget and reviewed progress on SEACEN’s 2026–2030 strategic business plan.

SEACEN, composed of 19 member central banks, promotes cooperation and knowledge-sharing through its Research and Training Centre based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
