BOC intelligence deputy commissioner resigns; replacement being lined up

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) said its Intelligence Group is currently without a deputy commissioner after Romeo Allan Rosales resigned, effective last Monday.

Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno confirmed the resignation and said Rosales may have stepped down due to a sense that he failed to properly act on certain smuggling cases during his time in office. Rosales did not state a reason in his resignation letter, according to Nepomuceno.

Rosales previously held several posts in the BOC before being appointed deputy commissioner on June 30 last year.

Nepomuceno said he has already recommended a replacement to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Finance Secretary Frederick Go. He added that the nominee is his former classmate at the Philippine Military Academy, where Nepomuceno belongs to PMA Class 1987, and said he is waiting for approval.

While the post remains vacant, Nepomuceno said he will act as the de facto head of the Intelligence Group and directly oversee its operations in the meantime.
