Globe shifts to renewable energy for key sites ahead of Earth Day

Telecom company Globe Telecom is increasing its use of renewable energy as part of its sustainability efforts, in line with the global observance of Earth Day.

In early April, Globe signed a deal with First Gen Group to supply clean power to several facilities. Under the agreement, three sites in Mindanao will run on geothermal energy, while a facility in Caloocan will use hydropower.

The company said these local energy sources help reduce reliance on imported fuel and protect operations from global price swings. Geothermal power provides steady electricity, while hydropower adds support to ensure reliable service for customers.

The shift was made possible through government programs that allow large companies to directly source renewable energy. These initiatives aim to strengthen the country’s energy supply and promote sustainability.

Globe said the move also supports the Philippines’ goal of increasing renewable energy use while keeping its network stable as demand for connectivity grows.

For sites that still rely on fuel, especially in remote areas, the company is improving efficiency through measures like better generator management.

Earlier, Globe also joined Earth Hour in March by turning off non-essential lights and equipment across its facilities, highlighting the need for energy conservation amid ongoing power challenges.
