PH market for soups, ready meals seen growing; US exporters have big potential

The Philippine market for packaged soups and ready meals hit $176 million in retail sales in 2025, and is projected to rise to $237 million by 2030, according to the US Department of Agriculture in Manila, citing data from Euromonitor International.

The sector grew 8 percent annually from 2020 to 2025, and forecast to expand 6 percent yearly through 2030. Demand is driven by busy households, more women joining the workforce (up to 52 percent in 2023), and wider ownership of appliances like refrigerators (54 percent of households) and microwaves (36 percent), making it easier to store and prepare these foods.

In 2025, dry soups led the soup category at 59 percent share ($47 million), and grew the fastest at 11 percent yearly. Among ready meals, shelf-stable types took 59 percent ($57 million) and rose 9 percent annually.

About 30 percent of products here are imported; only 20 percent of imports come from the US, worth roughly $11 million or 6 percent of the total market. The FAS said this leaves strong room for growth for American suppliers, with top opportunities including cream or tomato-based soups, seafood chowders, organic options, rice or pasta meals, and vegetarian items.

Other factors boosting sales: preference for local and foreign flavors, demand for healthier choices, smaller family sizes needing smaller portions, and more seniors who prefer easier meal options. All main product lines are expected to keep growing through 2030.
