C&U Group steps up Philippine manufacturing investment plan

Chinese bearing manufacturer C&U Group is ramping up its Philippine expansion with a USD132 million investment in its Sto. Tomas, Batangas facility, further cementing the country’s role in the company’s global manufacturing network.

The expansion took center stage during a May 24 meeting between Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ma. Cristina A. Roque and C&U Group Chairman Zhang Tongsheng, alongside senior company executives. Facilitated by PTIC-Shanghai, the discussions highlighted the Philippines’ growing importance as a strategic production hub for the multinational manufacturer.

C&U Group said Phase 2 of its facility expansion at Light Industry & Science Park III (LISP III) in Sto. Tomas is on track for completion before the end of the year. Once finished, the project will bring the company’s total investment in the site to USD132 million and significantly boost its precision bearing production capacity.

The company’s expansion comes as industrial development in Batangas gains momentum. Evergreen Light Singapore Inc. has also launched development of the USD87 million Alitagtag Industrial Park, envisioned as an international manufacturing base for bearings and related components.

The first phase of the industrial park, expected to be completed within three to five years, will feature two production plants, supported by residential facilities, power systems, and environmental infrastructure across a 20-hectare site.

Roque welcomed the investments, saying they align with the government’s push to strengthen export-oriented manufacturing and deepen the Philippines’ integration into global value chains. She also emphasized the country’s investment facilitation initiatives supporting industries such as automotive, industrial machinery, and precision engineering.

C&U Group operates manufacturing facilities across China, the Philippines, the United States, Germany, and Japan, supplying bearings and critical components for automotive, robotics, energy, rail, and industrial equipment sectors.

The company currently manages eight production parks worldwide and continues to expand its Philippine footprint as part of its long-term export manufacturing strategy.
