The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has clarified that the San Jose del Monte (SJDM) Station is still part of the official MRT-7 route, putting to rest reports that only 13 stations would be built instead of the originally planned 14. This confirmation underscores the project’s full scope and commitment to serving both Quezon City and Bulacan commuters as designed.
According to the agency, operations for the first 12 stations—from Sacred Heart to North Avenue—are targeted to start in the second quarter of 2027, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s order to speed up key infrastructure projects. The remaining two stations, Tala and SJDM, are scheduled for completion and opening in 2028. Rather than relocating the SJDM Station as earlier suggested by local officials, DOTr noted it is looking into redesigning the facility to better suit needs while keeping it within the approved path.
As one of 194 high-impact projects under the administration’s “Build Better, More” program, the 22-kilometer MRT-7 is seen as vital to improving daily life and mobility for Filipinos. Its 14 stations connect major areas including Quezon Memorial Circle, University Avenue, Batasan, and Manggahan, ending in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. Once fully running, the line will cut travel time between Quezon City and SJDM to just 35 minutes, and is projected to serve 300,000 passengers in its first year. The development will also include an intermodal transport hub and a 19-kilometer highway linking SJDM to Bocaue, Bulacan, further boosting connectivity and regional economic activity.
