Lucio Tan Group taps First Gen for over 32 MW of geothermal power on major shift to clean energy

Diversified conglomerate Lucio Tan Group (LTG) has partnered with leading renewable energy producer First Gen, marking its strategic move to diversify energy sources and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

The agreement was finalized in late 2025, with power supply rolling out to LTG facilities in staggered phases from late 2025 through early 2026. In total, First Gen will deliver more than 32 megawatts of steady geothermal power from its Tongonan Geothermal Power Plant in Leyte across the group’s aviation, real estate, manufacturing, and related operations.

“As we continue to grow, we want to do so responsibly. This partnership is just the start of our efforts to secure reliable energy for all our businesses, with the ultimate goal of creating meaningful economic and environmental impact and building a more resilient future,” said LTG and PAL Holdings president Lucio C. Tan III.

Under the deal, over 8 megawatts will go to six projects of real estate arm Eton Properties, including major office developments in Quezon City and Makati City. More than 3 megawatts will supply Philippine Airlines’ key facilities in Pasay City, while 3.9 megawatts is allocated to aircraft maintenance firm Lufthansa Technik Philippines. The agreement also covers 2.7 megawatts for bioethanol producer Absolut Distillers, plus additional supply for catering services, construction, and steel fabrication units.

First Gen president and chief operating officer Francis Giles Puno lauded the partnership, noting it sends a strong message that companies across sectors can lead the shift to a low-carbon future. He described LTG’s move as clear proof that ESG principles are the foundation of long-term competitiveness, and highlighted geothermal power as ideal for critical operations since it delivers stable, 24/7 supply unaffected by weather or time of day.
