The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) on Tuesday announced fuel surcharges for both domestic and international flights remaining unchanged at Level 4 for the month of November. This developed following a decline in jet fuel prices which have dropped significantly over the past year.
In an advisory, the CAB said that from 1 to 30 November, the fuel surcharge for domestic flights will continue to range from P117 to P342, depending on the distance. For international flights, the surcharge will remain between P385.70 and P2,867.82.
For cargo services, airlines may impose a fuel surcharge of P0.60 to P1.76 per kilogram for domestic shipments and P1.98 to P14.74 per kilogram for international cargo.
The CAB emphasized that airlines must file applications to impose or adjust these surcharges before the effective date, ensuring that they do not exceed the specified levels. The fuel surcharge is an optional fee that airlines use to recoup fuel costs and mitigate losses from fuel price increases. It is separate from the basic airfare and can be adjusted or eliminated based on market fuel prices.
According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the average jet fuel price stood at $88.47 per barrel as of October 18, marking a 21.2 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.
