Roxas City embraces cashless transactions with Paleng-QR PH Plus launch

In a bid to promote cashless transactions and enhance financial inclusion, Roxas City has officially adopted the Paleng-QR PH Plus program. The launch, held recently at the Paseo del Rio Teodoro Arcenas Trade Center, was marked by a symbolic transaction where vice mayor Teresa H. Almalbis (second from right) paid for fruits using a quick response (QR) code.

The Paleng-QR PH Plus initiative, supported by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), aims to expand the use of the national QR code standard (QR Ph) across various sectors, including public markets, transportation, and local businesses. The program facilitates seamless electronic payments, offering both convenience and security for consumers and merchants alike.

During the event, BSP acting area director Victor Ariel S. Dey (second from left) joined Roxas City officials, including councilor Fernando Luis A. Viterbo (not pictured), representing mayor Ronnie T. Dadivas. The event also featured the BSP’s Piso Caravan, where CARD Bank, a BSP Currency Exchange Center, provided a service to exchange unfit and mutilated banknotes for fresh bills or e-wallet credits.

Additionally, financial service providers were on hand to assist residents in opening bank or e-wallet accounts, empowering them to make QR Ph transactions for everyday purchases. This collaboration between the BSP and local officials marks a significant step toward increasing financial literacy and enabling a cashless economy in the city.

The Paleng-QR PH Plus program aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to promote digital financial services nationwide.
