Tanduay beats Bacardi, Captain Morgan in global sales race

Tanduay, the flagship rum brand owned by Filipino tycoon Lucio Tan, has once again been recognized as the world’s top-selling rum, achieving the title for the eighth consecutive year, according to the 2024 Millionaires’ Club report by Drinks International.

The brand sold 23.8 million 9-liter case equivalents in 2024, outperforming major global competitors Bacardi (19.7 million) and Captain Morgan (11.5 million). This continued dominance not only highlights Tanduay’s enduring appeal but also its increasing commercial strength in the global spirits market.

“We are proud that a Philippine brand is performing well on the global stage,” said Roy Kristoffer Sumang, Tanduay’s international business development manager. “This recognition reflects the hard work of our teams and the continued trust of our consumers worldwide.”

In a year marked by headwinds across the industry, Tanduay stood out as one of only two rum brands to record volume growth, posting a 1.7 percent increase. It was also the second fastest-growing rum globally and ranked as the sixth best-selling spirits brand across all categories.

The Millionaires’ Club rankings are based on actual sales data submitted by leading spirits producers and public financial disclosures, with volumes calculated to multiple decimal places to determine precise rankings.

Founded in 1854, Tanduay’s legacy of Filipino craftsmanship continues to resonate in over 25 international markets, including the U.S., U.K., China, Germany, South Korea, and the UAE, reinforcing the brand’s stature as a major global player in the spirits industry.
