ACEN, UPC begin construction of major India renewables

ACEN Corp., the renewable energy arm of the Ayala Group, has partnered with UPC Renewables for the construction of two green energy projects in India: a 420-megaWatt solar farm in Rajasthan and a 120 MW wind farm in Karnataka.

These projects are a strategic expansion for both companies into one of the world’s fastest-growing clean energy markets.

Scheduled for completion by early 2027, the projects are expected to produce a combined 1,158 gigaWatt-hours of clean electricity annually—enough to power approximately 241,000 homes while preventing over 876,000 tons of carbon emissions each year.

The Rajasthan solar farm, located in the high-irradiance Barmer region, is projected to generate 767 GWh annually. Meanwhile, the Karnataka wind farm will harness favorable monsoonal winds and terrain to deliver 391 GWh of renewable energy annually.

Together, these projects will create over 1,500 green jobs during construction, boosting local employment and economic development.

Patrice Clausse, ACEN International chief executive officer, emphasized the importance of momentum and disciplined capital deployment in key markets like India, highlighting the enduring partnership with UPC Renewables.

Brian Caffyn, UPC Renewables chairman, noted that the projects build on their successful track record in India and reinforce their commitment to scalable, sustainable energy solutions across the Asia-Pacific region.

Alok Nigam, CEO of UPC Renewables India, described the projects as a critical phase in their 1 GW pipeline, playing a vital role in India’s energy transition.

These initiatives follow ACEN and UPC’s existing operational assets in India, including the 420 MW Masaya Solar, 70 MW Paryapt Solar, and 140 MW Sitara Solar farms, underscoring the deepening collaboration and growth in the region’s renewable sector.
