Pineapple exports jump 14% in 2024 – FAO

The Philippines reported a 14 percent increase in pineapple exports in 2024, shipping around 680,000 metric tons (MT) compared to 600,000 MT in 2023, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). This solidified the country’s position as the world’s second-largest pineapple exporter, trailing Costa Rica’s 2.4 million MT.

FAO attributed the rise to stronger demand from China, the country’s top market, which received 40 percent (about 272,000 MT) of total exports—a 9.4 percent increase from 2023. Other major destinations included Japan (33 percent share or 224,400 MT, up 20 percent) and South Korea (16 percent or 108,800 MT, up 28 percent).

Despite the export gains, domestic pineapple production slightly dipped by 1 percent to 2.92 million MT, based on Philippine Statistics Authority data. The average export price also rose by 6.3 percent to $630 per MT.
