Ayala units deploying hybrid vehicles by year end in major fleet shift

Globe Telecom has partnered with AC Mobility to introduce 20 hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) into its field service fleet by the end of 2025, marking the first phase of a broader plan to decarbonize its operations.

The Ayala-led telco aims to convert nearly 500 fleet vehicles to hybrid or fully electric models by 2028. Globe expects the move to avoid about 5 million kilograms of carbon emissions over five years and save at least ₱100 million in fuel costs. The initiative goes beyond compliance with the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA), positioning the company as an early adopter of large-scale fleet electrification in the country.

Globe president and CEO Carl Cruz said hybrid units will help the company cut emissions while improving operational efficiency. AC Mobility CEO Jaime Alfonso Antonio Zobel de Ayala called Globe’s shift a “statement of leadership,” noting the group will support the rollout with BYD vehicles, charging networks, and digital platforms. BPI Tokyo Century Rental Corp., which is providing financing, said accessible financing is key to speeding up EV adoption.

Globe’s roadmap targets 20 HEVs by 2025, 200 units by 2026, and 300 more by 2028, with deployment expanding from Luzon and Visayas to Mindanao as more charging stations become available. The first vehicles will be used by Globe’s B2B sales and customer management teams, with later phases supporting network operations.

The partnership aligns with Globe’s Net Zero Roadmap launched in 2021, which includes EV shuttle conversions, support for the Evro charging network, and employee transition programs to hybrid and electric vehicles.
