SM launches free sustainability course for MSMEs

SM Investments Corp., in partnership with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), has launched a free online course to help micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) learn about sustainability reporting. The program was announced during a recent training workshop for publicly listed companies at SMX Aura in Taguig.

The e-learning bridge course aims to give MSME owners, suppliers, and partners basic knowledge of sustainability and climate-related practices, and practical guidance on how to implement them in their businesses. SM Investments will sponsor the course, while GRI will help distribute it through its platform partners and SM’s MSME network.

“MSMEs are critical to the economy, making up 99.5 percent of businesses in the Philippines,” said Timothy Daniels, SM Investments consultant and head of investor relations and sustainability. “Through programs like this, we want to empower them to create real business value while embracing sustainable practices.”

The initiative builds on SM’s long-standing partnership with GRI, which began in 2018. GRI noted that with strong private-sector support, sustainability practices have grown rapidly in the Philippines.

The course is part of SM’s broader effort to extend sustainability beyond its own operations and help MSMEs across industries adopt responsible and strategic business practices.
