ICTSI’s Tecon Suape wins Ocean Friend seal

Tecon Suape S.A. (TSSA), the Pernambuco-based container terminal of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), has reinforced its green credentials after earning the 2025 Ocean Friend seal, one of Brazil’s key recognitions for environmental responsibility in port operations.

The award was presented during Suape Conecta, an industry gathering organized by the Suape Port Industrial Complex that brings together port operators, regulators, and logistics stakeholders.

The Ocean Friend seal is granted to marine terminals that demonstrate high standards of environmental compliance and the consistent application of sustainable practices throughout their operations.

Suape Port Industrial Complex director for port development and management José Constantino said the recognition reflects a broader vision for the port. “By recognizing our partners, Suape reaffirms its belief that economic growth and environmental protection must advance together,” he noted. “These companies are not just compliant operators, but strategic partners committed to safeguarding the ocean for future generations.”

Tecon Suape distinguished itself through proactive environmental management, integrating sustainability into both strategic planning and day-to-day terminal activities. Its initiatives are aligned with global frameworks such as the United Nations Decade of the Ocean and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with particular focus on Sustainable Development Goal 14, which promotes the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources.

For ICTSI, the award underscores a long-standing corporate strategy that places environmental stewardship alongside operational efficiency and commercial performance. Across its global terminal network, the group has steadily embedded sustainability principles into terminal design, equipment selection, and operational processes.

The 2025 Ocean Friend seal was also awarded to five other companies operating within the Suape complex: Pandenor Import and Export, Decal Brasil, Petrobras Transporte S.A. – Suape Waterway Terminal, Ultracargo Logistica, and Temape – Terminals Marítimos de Pernambuco.

As ports face mounting pressure to balance trade growth with environmental responsibility, Tecon Suape’s latest recognition positions it as a benchmark for sustainable port operations in Brazil’s competitive logistics landscape.
