Park Inn Bacolod powers circular economy with biodiesel

Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod, operated under SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. (SMHCC), has deepened its circular economy program with the donation of 200 liters of biodiesel to residents of Barangay Singcang, Bacolod City, further advancing its waste-to-energy advocacy.

The biodiesel, produced from the hotel’s flagship initiative that converts used cooking oil into clean-burning fuel, marks another step in turning operational waste into community value. With this latest release, the hotel’s total biodiesel contributions have reached 2,600 liters since the program began in 2024.

According to the hotel, the cumulative output is estimated to support roughly 16 tons of collective catch for local fisherfolk, offering a more affordable and reliable energy alternative amid persistent fuel price volatility.

The initiative is implemented in partnership with Green Solutions, led by CEO Ian Fred Solas, which processes collected used cooking oil into high-grade biodiesel, reinforcing a closed-loop system within the hotel’s operations.

“Sustainability is no longer a choice but a necessity,” said Reljun Oloroso, the hotel’s sustainability champion. “Through strong partnerships, we can transform waste into resources that benefit both communities and the environment.”

The program is now showcased at the Panaad sa Negros Festival alongside other SMHCC sustainability efforts such as Tela Tales and the Bokashi composting system.

As the only hotel in Negros Island accredited under the Hotel Sustainability Basics certification, Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod continues to position itself as a model for inclusive green hospitality, where innovation, environmental responsibility, and community partnership converge.

The hotel said it plans to further scale its used cooking oil recovery program, exploring additional community partnerships and replication across SMHCC properties nationwide, as part of its long-term commitment to circular hospitality and climate-resilient operations in the Visayas region.
