AirAsia Philippines is gradually phasing out older aircraft as part of its fleet modernization program, the budget carrier announced Monday.
The airline is optimizing flight operations and fleet deployment to prepare for the arrival of new aircraft, including the Airbus A220, which is scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2027. These new units will also operate within the Philippine market.
Group chief executive Bo Lingam stated that the company is reviewing its route network strategy over the next two to three months to identify opportunities for long-term growth. Meanwhile, the wider AirAsia Group is restoring flight frequencies and capacity, with full operational recovery targeted by August 2026. New services to destinations including Busan, Bahrain, London, and Batam are also being introduced.
As part of its operational improvements, the group has improved its on-time performance to an average of 85 percent since April 2026 across more than 150 destinations. The introduction of newer aircraft such as the Airbus A321LR and the upcoming A220 is designed to reduce fuel consumption per seat by up to 20 percent, lowering operating costs and enabling more affordable fares for passengers.
The company emphasized that this modernization supports sustainable and profitable growth while maintaining accessibility of air travel. Lingam noted that continued collaboration with industry partners will be essential to further strengthen the aviation sector.
