Maternal and infant mortality remain key public health issues in the Philippines. According to data, the national maternal mortality rate stands at 84 per 100,000 live births, while Lipa City recorded the highest number of maternal and fetal deaths in the province in 2022.
To address these challenges, Mary Mediatrix Medical Center has introduced the Alagang Mediatrix OB-GYN Program. This initiative aims to remove financial barriers to healthcare and ensure women receive timely and proper medical attention.
The program offers free OB-GYN consultations for women of all ages, covering both pregnant and non-pregnant patients. It also includes the No Balance Billing Program, which is supported by PhilHealth funding. Qualified patients can avail of free prenatal care, delivery services, basic accommodation, doctor fees, selected medicines, laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures.
Dr. Elenita Diga, chairman of the OB-GYN Department at the hospital, noted that most maternal deaths are preventable. Many cases occur not because treatment is unavailable, but because families cannot access care in time. She emphasized that early detection of high-risk pregnancies and prompt management of complications, such as severe bleeding after childbirth, are critical to saving lives.
Hospital officials state that the program is part of their commitment to community health. It seeks to encourage early consultation and intervention to prevent health conditions from developing into emergencies. The initiative is funded by the hospital administration as part of its effort to support families in the community.
The Good Samaritan OPD Clinic is located at the 2F MAB 1 Building of Mary Mediatrix Medical Center. It opens every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 NN. Inquiries may be made via text or call at 0956-244-8102.
