Maya shifts to recycled plastic cards

Maya has begun rolling out cards made from recycled plastic (rPVC) and plans to transition all newly produced prepaid cards to recycled materials by the end of the year as part of its sustainability commitment.

The initiative aims to reduce reliance on virgin plastic while maintaining the same level of security, durability, and reliability that customers expect from Maya cards.

The transition will apply to Maya-issued prepaid Mastercard and Visa cards, which remain usable for ATM withdrawals and purchases across more than 150 million merchant locations worldwide.

New cards will carry a “Made from 100 percent Recycled Plastic” mark, making the sustainability shift visible to customers without changing functionality.

The move reinforces Maya’s broader sustainability agenda, which includes environmental stewardship, financial inclusion, responsible innovation, and employee wellbeing.

The rollout coincides with Philippine Environment Month and builds on Maya’s ongoing efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote initiatives like #MayaSWITCH for energy conservation and reduced single-use plastics.
