Agricultural losses from the enhanced monsoon and storms Luis, Maymay, and TD Neneng rose to P1.73B, the DA said in its Aug. 20, 7 a.m. advisory — up from P1.42B on Aug. 17 before Neneng’s effects were tallied.
The assessment covers 50,277 farmers, 40,954 ha, and 43,220 MT in production loss. 77.46 percent (31,721 ha) of affected areas may still recover; 22.54 percent (9,232 ha) are not viable.
Damage breakdown: Rice P974.82M; high-value crops P540.11M; corn P85.33M; infrastructure/equipment P78.94M; cassava P22.99M; livestock/poultry P14.85M; fisheries P9.26M. Affected regions: CAR, Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas. Assessments continue; further losses likely.
Aid deployed: P210.93M in inputs + 3,631 bags rice; P35.67M insurance payouts to 5,005 beneficiaries; zero-interest loans up to P25,000. DA also moving supplies, monitoring prices, curbing profiteering.
