Mynt holding steady after stock market debut as analysts weigh near-term risks and growth potential

Shares of Mynt Inc., the fintech operator behind the popular e-wallet GCash, posted a stable performance during its initial trading sessions on the Philippine Stock Exchange, closing slightly lower on its second day at P6.59 apiece compared to its offer price of P6.60. Market observers noted that the stock held flat on its opening day, reflecting potential active price stabilization by underwriters alongside strong local buying interest that managed to absorb selling pressure from foreign investors. For initial shareholders and debut investors, the flat to slight dip indicates a controlled initial market entry with minimal immediate volatility, though analysts emphasize that the stock’s future trajectory will depend heavily on upcoming financial results and execution.

Market analysts advise prospective investors to approach near-term buying with caution as Mynt prepares to report its latest financial performance through parent firm Globe Telecom Inc. local broker Abacus Securities Corp. pointed out that given the high market anticipation surrounding the listing, there is an elevated risk of earnings disappointment, particularly after the company experienced a quarter-on-quarter earnings decline in the second quarter. The brokerage suggests that investors considering buying into GCash may find a safer entry point after reviewing Globe’s third-quarter earnings report, expected in early November.

Despite near-term caution, market experts maintain a positive outlook on the company’s long-term value creation. Research firm COL Financial Inc. projects Mynt’s revenues to expand to P91.7 billion this year and reach P113.6 billion by 2027, driven by expanding transaction volumes and rapid growth in its credit business. Net income is similarly forecast to reach P20.4 billion in 2026 and P25.8 billion in 2027. Industry professionals, including SeA Focus Portfolio hedge fund manager Eric Jurado, note that the stock offer provides investors with a rare direct stake in a premier Philippine fintech enterprise. Jurado stressed that while public listing grants Mynt the capital needed for product expansion, long-term shareholder value will ultimate hinge on the company’s ability to maintain earnings growth, defend its competitive position, and continuously strengthen its services for consumers over the coming decade.
