ASEAN Summit 2026: flight adjustments & traffic delays expected – what you need to know

With the 49th ASEAN Summit set for November 16–18, 2026, the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) is advising the public and airlines to brace for possible flight schedule changes, airport adjustments, and heavier traffic around key areas.

Heightened security and the arrival of hundreds of delegates mean certain roads may be closed or restricted, while travel times to and from airports could be longer than usual. Commuters and air travelers are being urged to plan ahead to minimize disruption to daily trips and business operations.

In an official advisory, the CAB has directed all airlines to review their flight schedules closely and coordinate with airport management to ensure any changes are truly necessary and kept to a minimum. Airlines must also inform passengers as early as possible if flights are cancelled or rescheduled, using every available channel to reach those affected.

The regulator reminded carriers they must fully respect the Air Passenger Bill of Rights, ensuring passengers receive all entitled benefits and assistance during disruptions. Airlines are also instructed to deploy enough staff at airports to help travelers quickly and courteously when changes occur.

For passengers, the message is simple: check your flight status frequently through official airline and government updates. If your trip is affected, contact your airline right away for rebooking or alternative arrangements. Most importantly — leave much earlier than usual for the airport, as traffic congestion, road closures, and tighter security checks will likely add significant time to your journey.
