Sarangani Energy Corp. (SEC), part of the Alsons Power Group, was named the Philippines’ most compliant coal-fired power generator under the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), earning a 97.71% compliance rating in industry recognition awarded by the Philippine Electricity Market Corp. (PEMC).
SEC ranked first among 33 coal-fired power plants nationwide in PEMC’s Top 1 Most Compliant Generator Award under the Coal Resource Type category. The recognition acknowledges electricity market participants for complying with WESM rules, regulatory requirements and market standards.
“This recognition reflects the strong commitment of the Alsons Power Group to operational excellence, environmental sustainability, regulatory compliance, and responsible participation in the Philippine energy market,” said Atty. Located in Maasim, Sarangani, SEC operates a 237-megawatt coal-fired power plant that supplies baseload electricity to Mindanao. Its output contributes to the region’s power supply as economic activity expands and electricity demand grows.
The recognition also puts a spotlight on compliance practices within the country’s conventional power generation sector, where reliable supply and adherence to market regulations remain important considerations for electricity stakeholders.
