The Philippines has recorded its highest-ever credit perception score, reaching 75 out of 100 and up by 2 points from the previous year, according to the latest survey by TransUnion Information Solutions Inc. The 2026 Credit Perception Index reveals positive sentiment across all major island groups, marking a shift from previous years when views outside Metro Manila tended to lag behind.
Mindanao posted the most notable improvement, climbing 3 points to 77 out of 100, driven by stronger performance across six of seven measured factors including better product knowledge, greater favorability, reduced stigma, and increased trust in credit services. Luzon, including Metro Manila, rose 1 point to 74, while the Visayas held steady at 75 points. Most indicators improved or remained stable across regions, with gains in trust and product knowledge in the Visayas balancing out softer results in other areas.
TransUnion Philippines president and CEO Peter Faulhaber described the nationwide trend as an encouraging sign that confidence and understanding of credit are growing broadly rather than being concentrated in the capital region. He noted that this kind of widespread progress supports greater financial inclusion across the country. Faulhaber also emphasized that one-size-fits-all strategies are less effective, and that understanding local needs and behaviors helps create solutions that truly serve communities, ensuring that progress translates into genuine participation in the financial system. First launched in 2023, the annual survey measures how Filipinos understand, trust, and feel about credit and financial products, providing data intended to guide better services and broader access to finance nationwide.
