Manila Water Co. Inc. subsidiary, Manila Water Philippine Ventures Inc. (MWPV), has reached out to the provincial government of Pangasinan to revive a concession agreement they mutually agreed to terminate last month.
Manila Water said in a statement that the parties will revisit the conditions precedent of the old contract and renew the partnership for the benefit of consumers.
Manila Water told the Philippine Stock Exchange earlier this month the concession was cancelled last December due to “non-fulfillment of conditions precedent” by the provincial government of Pangasinan but did not detail the information.
In January 2022, the parties agreed to implement a bulk water supply contract in Pangasinan worth an estimated P8 billion over a 25-year concession to deliver 200 million liters per day to approximately 1.4 million residents across 14 cities and municipalities.
Melvin Tan, Manila Water non-East zone chief operating officer, said they have a 25-year joint venture pact with the Calasiao Water District serving more than 95,000 people in 24 barangays in Calasiao, Pangasinan.
Prior to this development, MWPV said Boracay Water budgeted P240 million as capital expenditure this year to boost its water and wastewater services in Boracay Island..
Manila Water serves customers in Makati, Pasig, Pateros, Marikina, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Taguig, some parts of Quezon City and Manila and several towns in Rizal province that include Taytay, Teresa, Angono, Antipolo, Baras, Binangonan, Cainta, San Mateo and Rodriguez.
It also has partnerships with water districts in Tagum, Davao del Norte; Bulacan; Clark in Pampanga; San Jose in Nueva Ecija; Laguna; Boracay in Aklan; as well as with property developments through Estate Water.
Overseas, Manila Water has operations in Thailand, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Myanmar.
