The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has started essential power maintenance activities at Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) lasting up to 28 May this year to replace outdated electrical components helping sustain last year’s electrical systems upgrade.
The MIAA said power shutdowns will be sectoral and will affect the open and multilevel parking area, the substations at the South and North concourses, and the main substation itself. As far as practicable, these will start at midnight when the least number of flights is scheduled.
Nevertheless, the MIAA will have standby generator sets at each substation to provide uninterrupted power supply to critical airport systems, thereby ensuring uninterrupted processing of passengers and flights. Reduced air conditioning supply in certain areas as well as temporarily unavailable elevators and escalators may be experienced from time to time.
The MIAA is steadfast in completing the crucial upgrades while dealing with inevitable power interruptions in the course of the project.
It was noted a series of interruptions from 29 November to 13 December 2023 covering various areas of NAIA Terminal 3 did not prove disruptive to both passengers and flight operations due to a well-planned and coordinated work plan. No delays or cancellations attributable to the maintenance works were reported.
MIAA general manager Eric Jose Ines seeks the support and understanding of all airport users in this important undertaking.
“We apologize to all our airport stakeholders. Rest assured the benefits of this electric systems upgrade will far outweigh the inconvenience it may bring in the course of its implementation. We seek for more patience and understanding from everyone,” Ines said.
