Meralco calls on gencos to submit bids for 2025 supply requirement

Manila Electric Co., the country’s largest power distributor,  is calling on generating companies or gencos to bid for its supply requirements beginning next year after a court ruling junked a petition to stop the process.

The Taguig Regional Trial Court has dismissed the petition for injunction on the competitive selection process (CSP) and rendered an earlier issued temporary restraining order without force and effect.

“We urge prospective bidders to submit their best offers for Meralco’s 600 megaWatt and 400 MW supply requirements for next year. We look forward to receiving competitive offers that will help us fulfill our mandate of providing reliable and least-cost electricity to our customers,” Meralco bids and awards committee for power supply agreements chairman Lawrence S. Fernandez said.

“We would also like to reiterate that the CSPs are being conducted in compliance with the rules and guidelines set by the Department of Energy and the Energy Regulatory Commission. We remain dedicated to conducting this process with utmost transparency and fairness,” he added.

The bids and awards committee scheduled the bid submission deadline for the 600-MW requirement on 27 August while that  for the 400-MW requirement on 1 October this year.

Both requirements are both due for delivery starting August 2025.
