The Philippine Geothermal Production Company, Inc. (PGPC) has launched an ambitious environmental initiative to plant over one million trees in seven provinces across Luzon over the next five years. The reforestation program will cover more than 1,200 hectares, targeting areas around PGPC’s geothermal steam fields.
Reforestation sites include Mt. Makiling (Batangas and Laguna), Mt. Daklan (Benguet), Mt. Malinao (Albay), Mt. Labo (Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Quezon), and parts of the Bicol Natural Park.
“The program reflects PGPC’s commitment to both clean energy and environmental stewardship,” said PGPC President Napoleon L. Saporsantos Jr. during the ceremonial planting of 1,000 seedlings in Malinao, Albay. The event was attended by government officials, local stakeholders, and PGPC employees.
A pioneer in geothermal energy in Southeast Asia, PGPC currently operates two steam fields producing up to 300 MW and is expanding to add another 300 MW through new projects in Luzon.
