Manila Water, in partnership with MSpectrum, has completed the installation of 3.8 megawatts-peak (MWp) of solar capacity across ten of its facilities. The new solar systems, dedicated solely for Manila Water’s operational use, are part of the company’s ongoing effort to integrate renewable energy and reduce its carbon footprint.
The solar deployment covers key infrastructure, including pumping stations and treatment plants in locations such as Kingsville, Siruna, East La Mesa, Makati, Lucban, Calawis, East Bay, Taguig North, Marikina North, and Ilugin. The Grid-Tied system will help mitigate rising electricity costs, particularly transmission and ancillary fees.
With this addition, Manila Water’s total solar capacity now reaches 6.3 MWp, including a 2.5 MWp Phase 1 Solar installed earlier this year. The consolidated solar output is expected to meet around 5 percent of the company’s annual energy demand, generating significant energy savings and advancing its sustainability goals.
Manila Water president and CEO Jocot de Dios highlighted the partnership’s potential to set a regional benchmark, describing Manila Water as “a beacon in the Asia Pacific for renewable energy in a water utility company.” MSpectrum COO Patrick Panlilio emphasized their continued support, noting that achieving renewable energy goals requires commitment, investment, and ongoing monitoring.
This milestone strengthens Manila Water’s push toward a greener, more resilient future.
