Prime Energy sees Malampaya Phase 4 delivering gas later this year

Prime Energy, the gas exploration arm of Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc., says it is confident it will deliver the  first gas from the Malampaya Phase 4 (MP4) project by the fourth quarter of 2026, staying on schedule based on current progress.

Company president and CEO Donnabel Kuizon Cruz said the project is “going very well” and remains on track as long as work continues at its current pace. She said the goal of producing indigenous gas by late 2026 is still achievable.

Prime Energy also said it is continuing to look for additional gas resources in the Philippines as part of efforts to strengthen local energy supply and reduce reliance on imported fuel. The company said developing domestic gas is important for long-term energy security and price stability.

The company, through the Service Contract No. 38 Consortium—which includes UC38 LLC, Prime Oil & Gas, and PNOC-Exploration Corp—recently drilled and tested new wells at the Malampaya gas field. These activities are expected to extend the field’s operating life by about six years.

Prime Energy said the project benefits from government support, including a 15-year extension of its service contract and a new natural gas law, which helped speed up development efforts. The company added that stronger cooperation between government and industry is key to expanding local energy production.

It also noted that Malampaya has generated more than $14 billion in government revenues over the past two decades through royalties and taxes, highlighting its role as the country’s main domestic natural gas source.
